National Hotel

+ We have visited russia and stayed in 6 different hotels, i would range this hotel as my second best. The place is very historical, the lobby is a great place to sit..

− The rooms were a bit old, the corridors as well. Although the reception and lobby looked so good,, the upper floors were not as first

+ It is the best hotel ever it was opened in 1903 and many famous people stayed in the National hotel. A historical royal style hotel❤️

− I think we was in the new hotel which from the reception you need to go to second flooor and walk to the back side left and continue to 7th floor which you need to walk like 10 mint to reach your room and also no bidet water

+ I absolutely loved it. the hotel was built in 1903. it was fascinating to stay there. The antique furniture was breathtaking! I do pray they keep this original atmosphere. there's no hotel in the world that keeps such great original antique Russian style. The hotel is very close to Alexander Park, and all the great museums, the staff were kind, and they speak English. I haven't tried the food, so I can't comment on it. But I am definitely staying there again!

− everything else - breakfast is terrible and extremely limited, it smells AWFUL inside and your clothes get soaked with bad smell every time you enter breakfast area. Also one time it was so full they asked to WAIT for you to sit for breakfast or join another table haha, absolutely atrocious. Rooms ARE OLD, VERY OLD, ULTRA OLD, you can even smell it - it's bad. Bathroom is awful and looks like its still Soviet Union, very dirty tiles, even the bath mat is yellow instead of transparent. Everything creaks, A/C is not working (they had to come fix it, and the temperature gauge still doesnt work, the worker said it didnt work since 20 years ago).

− THE CONCIERGE MANAGER WAS NOT AT ALL HELPFUL,DUE TO WAR,NO MOBILE SIM IS BEING ISSUED TO OTHER NATIONAL PEOPLE EXCEPT RUSSIA,BIG PROBLEM IN TAXI BOOKING AND NO HELP FORM THE MANAGER HIS BEHAVIOUR WAS RUDE REGADING PAYMENT AS I BOOKED HOTEL THROUGH MY CARD AS PAY AT HOTEL,HE ASKED FOR THE RUBLES AND DID NOT RESPOND TO MY PROBLEM, WHEN I ASKED,IF YOU CAN NOT CHARGE THE CAED DUE TO THE SANCTIONS,THEN HOW CAN YOU BLOCK THE BOOKING AGAINST CARDS THE ROOM GIVEN WAS NOT UP TO THE MARK

− The concierge staff was not available for 1 week , no one to replace him. I talked to the reception supervisor, Ludymilla and she was extremely rude. She did not help me in booking my trips and told me to go manage myself. Definitely a service of one star hotel

− My room had low service coverage for my data. So using my data was a struggle. However the hotel wifi was available.

+ The concierge department are very very helpful and friendly specially a guy named ( oleg) he booked for us activities and restaurant and lots of useful information, the other staff also friendly and welcoming, very good location close to everything , the rooms are wide even if it was the smallest one

− Value of the breakfast and the unchanged breakfast buffet. concierge service was not much helpful and recommend things don’t fit or as requested by us ( guests) he was late not always on the desk sometimes he was late to come based on the time of starting the day. Didn’t like to deal with him again . The washroom roof was leaking on our heads. Room service was bad not cleaning the floor at all

+ It was an excellent option in terms of price and location and I liked the cooperation of the staff, unlike what was written in the people's rating, a repeatable experience

− I booked one night, and it was the worst experience. I won’t be returning to this hotel, as it doesn’t deserve five stars. The reception service was terrible; no one assisted us with our luggage, and after waiting nearly an hour to check in, I was informed that the room wasn’t ready. The furniture in the room was old and in poor condition. Moreover, the concierge service was unwelcoming, and the housekeeping staff woke me up by ringing the doorbell just to ask if I wanted my room cleaned. The telephone in my room was also not working, making it difficult to request any services. Additionally, I was only provided with two bottles of water, and once they were finished, I had to purchase more for 990 rubles. Overall, this stay was far from satisfactory.

− Wifi was a bit slow for Zoom so I had to switch to cellphone data.

+ Great location, in the middle of everywhere, quiet, perfect room size, helpful reception and English speakers, currency exchange inside the hotel. Next to the Metro station, cross the street to go the red Kremlin square and Gum mall.

+ I liked an extremely excellent level of service by reception and restaurant stuff. They were very helpful and polite. Please do not expect smiley service, in Russia can be kind and polite in without a big smile on their face. I certainly liked the location very much. I liked this little trip into the history and the atmosphere of cultural enrichment! Certainly will stay here once more!

− Hotel National is supposed to represent Moscow and its people but it does not. It represents the Soviet era of Russia. Breakfast is absolutely overrated and simply atrocious. Yes, you get caviar, in a small glass jar. You have to run and make sure you get it, because everyone grabs caviar. The smell in the breakfast area is treacherous. It’s as if you are sitting down next to someone who is frying meat and then your clothes stinks the whole day. For such a beautiful location, the breakfast is absolutely disappointing. The buffet itself looks dirty. Everything is sloppy. Service is great in the breakfast area! But the food is not. Just go downstairs to Zhivago or go around the corner and get good food there. Now we move forward to the service itself. The front desk manager Elena should not be working with people or training staff. She has zero customer skills. After our first day and breakfast in the hotel, our clothes were soaked with the smell of food. I called the receptionist and asked a refund for breakfast and to dry clean my boyfriend’s jeans for free. It is not ok, that in a hotel of this level, you come out stinking. I was told it has to be looked into and that 99.99% it will be done. Long story short, I had to reach out again! And finally on our last day, we were offered free dry cleaning but it was too late. But nothing about the refund. And the check out, the staff told us that there will be no refund for breakfast. I asked for the manager and Elena came out. Elena interrupts customers, cannot be empathetic, does not apologize, does not listen, does not care. Nothing. Absolutely zero. She is the typical representative of a Soviet service. Absolutely unacceptable for this location and this hotel. It’s not even about the fact that refund wasn’t granted. It’s the whole experience itself thanks to people like Elena. Moscow is great and there are MUCH better hotels then the National. I wouldn’t recommend to stay here, while people like Elena continue to work.

Bed is comfortable and clean the only problem with the air conditioning they cannot open it from October till April and the room without breeze because also you cant open the window. + The location, the staff, the interior, everything was just exceptional. Literally few steps from the metro station (without sensing any rattling when the metro passes by). 2 mins walking from the red square. The food is delicious. Staff were exceptionally hospitable. I loved everything and I would definitely stay again.
